Wintervention
THIS JUST IN: a warm winter = a cancelled WINTERVENTION. But don't let that get you down....take advantage of the springlike temps and start training early for the ZEELAND ZOOM 5K, June 26!
Five Cities: Zeeland, Saline, St. Clair, Douglas and Three Rivers will compete for a traveling trophy and bragging rights of this Snowman Building Competition of the Free World. We will be mass-producing 4-foot snowmen in downtown Zeeland. The goal is to build for quantity, not quality.
Please bring your own shovel, as well as old hats, scarves, etc. to decorate the snowmen at the conclusion of the contest.
Even if you're not an experienced snowman builder, we still want you to join us downtown. Enjoy staying warm in the cozy little shops, nibbling on fresh treats and sipping on hot cocoa! Enjoy to-go specials at downtown restaurants and Wintervention activities for kids! Stand on the sidelines and cheer on our snowman builders! And when they're done, everyone can join in and decorate the street full of snowmen!

8th Annual Used Book Sale
Come early for the best selection! We have books, magazines, movies, and more available for sale. There are hadcovers and paperbacks, like new and gently used. As always, all proceeds will directly support our collections development fund - this means every penny will be spent on materials for the community!

Day of the Young Child

Sponsored by Zeeland’s Early Childhood Center, Day of the Young Child is a day to highlight the needs and rights of young children and their families. A dedicated group of parents and teachers volunteer their time to plan an event that provides families with a fun-filled day of activities ranging from storytelling and arts and crafts, to viewing of the DARE truck and other vehicles and tours of city facility buildings. Spring Curbside Clean-Up
The City of Zeeland's annual Spring Curbside Clean-Up will take place Monday, April 16, 2012 through Friday, April 20, 2012. City residents may place tree branches, twigs, and shrub debris only in the street curb beginning Monday, April 9, 2012. No leaves, grass or other garden clippings should be placed out for pick up. Residents are asked to not place any debris in the street curb prior to Monday, April 9, 2012. Questions may be directed to the City Services & Infrastructure Department at 772-0870.
Annual Disposal Day at Autumn Hills
When: Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Where: Autumn Hills Recycling & Disposal Facility; 700 56th Avenue, Zeeland, MI
City residents may take unwanted items to the facility for disposal on this day. Autumn Hills will not accept the following items: hazardous or toxic items, any appliance that contains Freon, or home remodel/construction debris (such as roofing shingles, etc.) If an item has a motor, the motor must be removed prior to dropping off. Individuals will be expected to show proof of city residency. Any questions may be directed to the City Services & Infrastructure Department at 772-0870.
FREE Electronics and Metal Recycling Event
When: Friday, May 4, 2012 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM / Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Where: First Christian Reformed Church, 516 South Ferry Street, Grand Haven, MI (corner of Ferry & Waverly, east of US 31.)
Computers, monitors, keyboards, floppy discs, printers, broken radios, clocks, VCR & DVD players, game players, hair dryers, fax machines, cell phones - anything that plugs in or runs by battery. Metal items include: exercise equipment, appliances, Christmas lights, pipe, grills, lawn chairs, pots & pans, electric tools, vacuums, hangers, filing cabinets, motors. Anything with some metal! Broken, rusty, non-working, even unrecognizable - all is accepted. Volunteers will be in the church parking lot to unload your car or truck. All items will be environmentally recycled. Questions? Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony
When: Monday, May 28, 2012
Time: Parade begins at 9:00 AM
Where: Parade route starts on Main Avenue at Centennial Street, heading west to State Street, south to Central Avenue and east on Central Avenue to Maple Street. The parade is followed by a ceremony honoring all those who have served and continue to serve our country at the Lincoln Street Cemetery.
3rd Annual Zeeland Zoom 5K Foot Race and Walk
Tuesday, June 26 @ 7pm.
Come out and enjoy this exciting Tuesday night event downtown Zeeland! Last year’s race was a lot of fun with approximately 800 participants ZOOMING their way through the streets of Zeeland! A great event for competitors and families alike! Enjoy running through Zeeland’s historic downtown and neighborhoods. Stick around for after-race refreshments, awards & entertainment! Feel the Zeel!

Holland Zeeland Community Labor Day Truck Parade & Ice Cream Social
Make some noise for the businesses and workers of West Michigan! Bring the family, earplugs, and your appetite for ice cream and hot dogs! Give a few hours of your Labor Day to hone and celebrate our local workforce which has built one of the best places to live in the entire country!
With 50 large trucks from area employers participating, the celebration of area companies and the people who work at them is expected to begin on Main Street in downtown Zeeland at 9:15 a.m. and follow Chicago Drive to 8th Street in downtown Holland by 9:30, ending at the Holland Civic Center. Free ice cream, hot dogs and other giveaways will be provided at the Civic Center after the parade.

The Zeeland Board of Public Works Power Dollars is an annual gift certificate program for all Zeeland BPW Electrical Customers. Certificates in the amount of $15.00 will be available, courtesy of the Zeeland Board of Public Works, at the Zeeland Chamber of Commerce office (located at 149 Main Avenue, Zeeland, MI).
