The City Clerk's Department is responsible for all local Election functions including maintaining current and accurate registration of voters,  supervising and conducting all National, State, City, and Zeeland School elections.

February 27 - Presidential Primary
May 7  -  Special School and County Commissioner Election

     (Consolidated Precincts).
August 6 - State Primary
November 7 - General Election

If Registering to Vote 14 days or less prior to an Election you wish to vote in, you must register in the Zeeland City Clerk's office in person with proof of residency.

  • Absentee ballot applications available at City Clerk's Office.
  • Absentee ballot applications will be automatically mailed to all voters included on our Permanent Absentee Voter Mailing List approximately 6 weeks prior to the election.  You may call and request to be included on this list.
  • New:  Ballots will be automatically mailed to all voters who have requested this option in writing.  
  • Last Day an Absentee Ballot can be mailed to a voter is the Saturday prior to election day.  The City Clerk's Office is generally open the Saturday prior to election from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Call to verify hours or check online at
  • Every Ballot returned to the Clerk's office by the close of polls on Election day will be counted.
Licensing is also the responsibility of the Clerk's Office. This includes issuing all licenses required by city ordinance, recording all actions, of resolutions and ordinances of the City Council; and to examine and verify all accounts and claims against the city. Business licenses may be obtained from the clerk, 
 Documents can be Notarized in the Clerk's Office.  The document must be signed in front of the Notary Public and proper ID must be shown at the time of signing.

FOIA REQUESTS (Freedom of Information Act)
 The City Clerk is the official FOIA Coordinator.  All FOIA requests are recorded and processed by the Clerk's office.
The clerk's office also acts as recording secretary for the 
City Council meetings, Board of Public WorksShopping Area Redevelopment Board, Clean Water Plant Technical Review Committee, Zeeland Hospital Authority and the Economic Development Authority meetings. This department provides assistance to the Mayor and City Manager.  
It is the responsibility of the Clerk's Office to issue Cemetery Burial Rights and Care Certificates as well as maintain all records.
