1,000 Books Before Kindergarten!
Infants to Kindergarten
Pick up your first reading log (Books 1-100) from the Youth Desk at the Howard Miller Library in Zeeland. Read any book to your child (Newborn to entering Kindergarten), and color in an animal shape. When you have completed your reading log, come in to collect a sticker for your child and receive your next reading log. When you have completed all 10 logs (1,000 books), your child will receive a free book and a certificate recognizing your family’s hard work and dedication to reading!
Playaway Launchpads
A safe way to let your children use tablets.
Have you ever been nervous to hand your child a tablet? What if they dropped it, or worse, used the internet and found something inappropriate? We have a solution to these problems at the Howard Miller Library - the Playaway Launchpad!
These tablets come preloaded with games and apps that teach children about specific subjects. These launchpads are not eligible for holds nor renewals so it is first come first serve. They may be checked out for one week at a time. Each day overdue results in a $0.15 fine until the fine reaches the cost of replacement ($110-160). These are tough tablets that are made for children, but it can cost up to $160 to replace them if destroyed!
If you're interested in checking out a Playaway Launchpad, be sure to visit the children's selection and grab one of the boxes that interests your child! The boxes are checked out like a book from the front desk.
