The City of Zeeland is accepting applications for its Chalk Fest happening on August 7, 2020 .
There are a limited number of spaces available. Applications will be reviewed after July 1st. Approved applicants will be notified by July 15th.
Artists will receive a stipend of $200 per 10’ x 10’ square.
Required (but not limited to) artist working hours are August 7 from 4pm to 8pm. With completion by 8pm on August 7. Artists may begin their project as early as 8am on August 7.
This event is open to all ages!
The Chalk Fest will include live music, food trucks, face painting and more!
Thank you for your interest in Zeeland’s Chalk Fest. The event takes place on Friday, August 7 from 4pm to 8pm.
Location: The event will take place on Elm Street downtown Zeeland between Cherry Street and Main Street. This section of Elm Street is newly renovated and is call a woonerf, or living street. The Street will be closed to traffic during the event. Since the street is made of brick, the art will be created off of the street in park areas that are concrete. *for GPS please use the address 21 S. Elm Street, Zeeland MI 49464.
Supplies: Each artist is required to bring all of their own supplies. That will include a tent if you would like a break from the heat. Water will be provided to the artists during the event. Tempera paint is permitted at this event.
Time: The event will begin for the public at 4pm and end at 8pm. Each artist must work during the hours of 4pm and 8pm, however – you are welcome to come as early as 8am. During the 4pm to 8pm hours of the event, spectators can vote for their favorite, enjoy food trucks, live music and outdoor games. Saturday the event will be open to independent viewers. No voting will take place on Saturday and artist are not required to be present on August 8.
Stipend: East artist will receive a $200 stipend. You will receive the stipend at the event on August 7th. In order to receive your stipend, you must provide me with the follow: first and last name as well as your street address. A check will be written out to you.
Voting: The event will allow spectators for vote for their favorite. The People Choice winner will be announced on social media on Saturday, August 8.
Guidelines: There should be no political statements, nudity or profanity in the art pieces. Although there is no overall theme to the event, keep in mind that this is a family friendly event.
Space: Each artist will be given a 6” by 6’ space to create their piece in.

Spaces are 10' x 10'. If you want to create an over-sized 3D chalk piece, please indicate the size that you would need, along with the viewing area needed.
Please submit one image of the art you wish to create and three images of your past art work in any medium.
1. Artwork for the festival must be appropriate for public viewing.
2. Artists will receive a $200 stipend and refreshments are provided for artists on August 7. There is no reimbursement for supplies used or travel and lodging.
3. Artists are required to work on their drawing during the festival on August 7 with completion by 8pm. Artists may begin their piece as early as 8am on August 7. Public viewing and voting will take place on August 7.
Each artist will receive a stipend of $200 for their artistic abilities after completion of a 10' x 10' chalk art display.
